#15: Fashion faves (top 3)

I won't necessarily consider myself a fashionista, because I'm so inconsistent with my personal style and attitude towards fashion. However, there are many things that I love about fashion, but what I love most is how one can express themself without words through their clothing/personal appearance. The reason behind a lot of my faves is because I've come to realize these are the things that accentuate certain features of my body.

My fashion faves are:
#1 fave: BRAS!!!

#2 fave: Hats!!!

#3 fave: Sunglasses

DISCLAIMER: The items shown above do not necessarily mean I'm a fan of stores or brands that provide them. Some of them were selected because I liked the design of the product, and to have examples for you to see. I don't own the items in these pictures and I am not endorsing any company or brand.

#10: Herstory of an engineering student

Due to the fact that I've reached a stage in my life whereby I want to retain many memories of my present life, I decided to start documenting some important things in my life. One of the definining and prioritized things in my life at the moment is my education. I will like to start documenting my journey in that field of study, and if my entries can be of help to another engineering student out there, boy or girl, then that'll be a plus!!! I've decided to name these entries "Herstory of an engineering student." Who knows, I might make it into a book in the future, but let's see where God takes me first.

#9: Future events

I am a HUGE fan of award shows, and I always get so excited when it's Awards season. Genre of show does matter and I usually take preference in arts, entertainment and legacy award shows. Another reason why I love them so much is seeing my favorite public figures and also the attires worn, that's always entertaining (good or bad) to watch. Over the past years, some events that I have come to take interest in and will really like to attend are:

BET Honors
CNN Heroes
The Grammy's
NAACP Awards
The Stellar Awards
The Academy Awards
Essence Music Festival
Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards

....and many more I can't think of right now.

#5: Satire or reality???

I was browsing through Youtube today and I came across this video, which I found to be funny. I guess I found the humor in it because I lived in Nigeria and know the overall attitude of many Africans, especially the women. As hilarious as this skit was, I also realized that I was laughing so hard because it is very true and these women were making a huge point.

I know there are people out there that'll watch this video and see no problem with it and its satirical tone, but as an African girl in transition to becoming a woman and having to deal with topics such as marriage and children, it means a lot to me. Many Africans are big on education and take pride in having educated children; however, there is a difference in emphasis towards getting education for boys and girls. Both sexes excel well in their younger years and granted many opportunities, but that changes when students start getting to higher education. Although some girls are out-of-the-world intelligent, they are discouraged and not even given a chance to go to college and move further in education and careers. Like they demonstrate in this skit, the women comment on "her" being a career woman and being negligent of taking care of her husband and having children.

Honestly, I am not saying marriage and children are bad at all, because I do consider them to be blessings that some people can have but they should not be rushed or forced. Things like that have to be natural and not done in order to make the family happy. It makes no sense for me to get married at a certain early age and have children yet unhappy just because I want to make my family happy, or be in the rank of my friends that have done it.

I really wish that many people will see the dangers of these forced traditions and how damaging they can be to the lives of girls and women in African communities and other parts of the world. Give that girl/woman all the opportunities there are and she would make the right decisions for herself. I will forever carry my African values and morals and I know I have been raised right, I think my family should have no fear of me making terrible decisions. I am not perfect and may likely make mistakes but what's great about mistakes is that we learn from it and most of the time we have a chance to make the best out of it and make a complete 180 degrees turn.

Women have to be in the relationship with their partners, and they are the ones that will be carrying that blessing for nine months, so at least give them the joy and right of choosing the appropriate time (which best fits their career and goals in life).

#4: Bathroom wall writing

Last night, I attended an event on campus honoring National Black History month (which I must say was amazing). The event showcased several talented students in the University through the arts, especially music. It was an overall great evening. However, another thing that I really loved about that night was a writing that I saw on the bathroom wall (in the building where the event was hosted) which I've never seen before. Usually on bathroom walls and doors, one would see the writings of derogatory words, phone numbers, obscene images and profane languages, but last night's writing was different. I am completely paraphrasing right now, but it pretty much said "You are are strong + smart + beautiful. Do not forget." Seeing something like that definitely put a smile on my face.

It was so refreshing to see something like that written on a bathroom wall that sends a positive message, in contrast to ones I've seen in the past. A reason why I especially liked this writing is because I felt like that message has the power to change someone's life who uses that bathroom stall. For instance, if someone is having a bad day or misfortunate events happening, from just going to that bathroom to use it or freshen up, they glance over those words, it can definitely uplift their spirit.

I believe that messages like that need to be written on many walls, literally and figuratively. We all need to be uplifted and inspired in some way, so why not do it in different mediums either by saying it to the person face-to-face, e-mails, bathroom wall writings, etc. It may not instantly bring world peace but I believe it is a step towards it.

#3: Photo Challenge - Day 1

Day 1: A picture of yourself with ten facts

Taken on Nov. 12, 2010 at a dance event.

Ten facts
  • I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
  • I have never been to a musical concert.
  • I am a small woman with a big personality.
  • My first teddy bear was a cute little Donald Duck.
  • I have lived in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and the United States.
  • There are times that I am an amazing singer and times that I am NOT.
  • I like collecting sticks from the streets, ones that are finely-shaped or have weird figures.
  • I am getting to a point whereby I know so many people that I am starting to forget names.
  • I have a difficult time explaining my style of fashion because sometimes I like the feminine, masculine or androgynous looks.
  • Due to my argumentative, talkative and articulate nature, I was told to be a lawyer since I was younger and I still have interest in that occupation.

#2: The 30 Day Photo Challenge

So I came across this thing online which seems very fun and I'm interested in participating. I don't think it's an official event but it just seems like a fun experience for me and I will like to do it for the next 30 days. Honestly, I haven't looked at the whole list yet, because I like to maintain the element of surpise. I hope I can be able to accomplish all the challenges accordingly in the next 30 days, and the most important thing will be not missing any day at all. I think it'll be a great way to get to know myself and see my lifestory through a camera's lens. I love taking pictures anyway so it'll be piece of cake for me, hopefully. Each day, I will post the challenges on this website and keep you all updated. I'm excited!!!

You Rock My World - Michael Jackson

#1: Introduction

Some of you may wonder why I have this blog, knowing that I already have my main website (Rujizzle's World). Well the reason is that my main website has been having problems, because webs.com is trippin' and they better not mess with my website because I have so much on it that mean a lot to me, especially my Dear Diary.... entries. With that setback, I came to remember that I had made this blog two years ago for my English class and I could totally utilize it in the meantime while the other website is defective.

I am not trying to have 15 million websites out there because it'll get daunting and overwhelming for me to handle but I wanted to use this because I miss writing. Writing is one thing I always look forward to every weekend because I've come to realize that it helps me destress, especially after having rough weeks like my past ones with my academics. I plan to be writing as much as possible here but Rujizzle's World gets priority, and this will be more like a back-up.

P.S.: I am currently listening to Whitney Houston's song, and loving every moment of it. I love Whitney and I feel like our world has been blessed with her and no one can ever be compared to her, because she's just one of a kind. She's talented and gorgeous, I just love her and that powerful voice of hers!!!

I look to you - Whitney Houston
